WEEE in Uruguay: a firm commitment to sustainability

Uruguay takes a key step towards the circular economy with the new Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Management Plan, promoted by the CIEMSA-CSI-RLG consortium. This plan complies with Decree 292/024 of the Ministry of the Environment and offers manufacturers and importers of electrical and electronic equipment a comprehensive and efficient solution for the responsible management of their waste.

What is the WEEE Plan?

The Plan covers all stages of the waste cycle: collection, transfer, storage, recovery and final disposal. We work exclusively with managers authorized by the Ministry of the Environment and ensure full traceability of the equipment disposed of.

This open and transparent system allows any manufacturer or importer to join, with differentiated costs according to size and benefits for those who join from the beginning.

Who is in charge of it?

The plan is managed by the CIEMSA-CSI-RLG consortium, which combines:

• More than 45 years of local experience in infrastructure, engineering and operation of public systems.
• The international expertise of RLG, a leader in circular economy and environmental compliance, with a presence in more than 80 countries.
• A successful track record in Uruguay through the implementation of the Deposit, Return and Refund System (SDDR) for containers.
