The project is part of the strategic guidelines established by the MI to carry out actions aimed at creating new public spaces for the city.

In this context, the MI, with the sponsorship of the SAU and the FADU (UdelaR), called for a competition for the preliminary design and construction of the public space Las Pioneras, in a site located at Av. Agraciada between Gral. José M. Luna and Gral. Fausto Aguilar.

This public space is intended as a tribute to the first Uruguayan women who fought for women's rights.

In the development of the project, the following items have been considered as basic ideas for its structuring:

- Removal of the roof sheets, but maintaining the metal structure of the old existing sheds.
- With the metal sheets removed, a vertical plane is generated that covers the dividing walls, thus reconfiguring the space.
- Re-leveling and general paving of the public space with asphalt, and installation of new lighting and urban equipment.
- Generation of 2 differentiated sectors: one for services with multi-gender SSHH, park ranger cabin and storage, and the other with a multipurpose room and neighborhood stage.
- Creation of an element of remembrance to Las Pioneras, consisting of a large mirrored surface.
- Planting of climbing plants.
- Recovery of the envelope of the buildings of the old tramway station, with a view to its re-functionalization in a second stage.
